Oppo, a Chinese phone maker that entered the market in 2008, sold 50 million smartphones in 2015. With those sales, Oppo has become a major competitor in the handset market and the 8th largest mobile phone maker in the world. 50 million sales represents a 67% year-on-year growth.

In the last year or so, Oppo has become more focused on breaking into the markets surrounding China. Sean Deng, Oppo's managing director, stated it has "been making headway in the Southeast Asia region specifically."

Huawei and Xiaomi, two other Chinese smartphone makers, also had big years in 2015.
