HTC shipped over two million smartphones in the Taiwan market in 2015, representing an increase of over 20% from a year earlier and making it the top vendor for Android phones in the local market, according to Jack Tong, president of HTC North Asia.
HTC will maintain its policy of releasing dual-flagship models in 2016, although the sales ratio of over-NT$20,000 (US$595) models in the local market is likely to continue to decline in the year from 25% a year earlier, Tong said.
As a result, HTC plans to launch more new models for the NT$15,000-20,000 segment in 2016, aiming to maintain its leading market position in the sector, Tong added.
HTC saw its share in the NT$5,000-10,000 segment slide to 28-32% in 2015 from the previous 40% as it reduced models for the segment. HTC will add more models to the segment in 2016 to ramp up its share.
To boost its overall market share, HTC is considering launching sub-NT$5,000 models for the first time in Taiwan in 2016, Tong revealed, sales of sub-NT$5,000 models total about 100,000 units a month in the local market, accounting for 15-20% of total sales. |
