It was revealed this year that Toshiba has lied about its operating profit for six years and in connection with this scandal, the company is going to cut 6,800 jobs. Due to this scandal breaking, Toshiba is expected to report around $4.5 billion in losses, which is triggering a large restructure at the company.

These layoffs are part of the restructuring and the BBC reports they're primarily occurring in the consumer electronics division. Toshiba is also going to sell a TV and washing machine manufacturing facility in Indonesia.

When news of these accounting issues came out, Toshiba CEO Hisao Tanaka and vice-chairman Norio Sasaki resigned.
