Wistron has announced November notebook shipments of 1.8 million units, up 12% from a month ago, while its fourth-quarter notebook shipments are expected to drop 0-5% sequentially.
The company's shipments of non-notebook products such as smartphones mostly stayed flat from a month ago in November. Wistron stopped providing its smart handheld device shipment numbers since October in consideration of client relationships.
Some market watchers pointed out that Wistron has started supplying a portion of iPhone 6 Plus orders to Apple since August, but the volume is still small, while its orders from BlackBerry are also limited. However, Wistron declined to comment on its orders or clients.
Wistron has also recently signed a letter of intent with India's telecom distributor Optiemus Infracom to establish a joint venture with Wistron holding a 20% stake. The joint venture will be established in Noida, India and focus on manufacturing smart telecommunication devices. The planets will start pilot production prior to March 2016 and hire 4,000 workers initially and expand to 15,000 in three years.
The two companies will invest US$200 million over the next 3-5 years in the joint venture. |
