Samsung Electronics will move ahead with Quantum Dot (QD) TVs in 2016 as a major focal point for its high-end TV lineup, and display various new units at CES 2016, according to Korea-based inews24 citing sources from the company.
As LG Electronics and various China-based vendors are expected to boost their lineup of OLED TVs in 2016, Samsung's strategy will be to push QD TVs including Ultra HD (4K) units aimed primarily at the high-end TV segment in order to differentiate its lineup.
Recent reports have also stated Samsung does not believe OLED has strong prospects in the TV market until at least 2017 due to high costs that translate into higher consumer pricing. Instead, LCD TVs with QD features, HDR technology and 4K resolution will have better prospects and be priced more competitively for the 2016 TV market.
The report said Samsung is expected to unveil a new lineup of SUHD TVs at CES 2016. Market observers have mixed views on Samsung's position in the high-end TV segment over the next year due to these trends but sources at Samsung were quoted as stating they believe their lineup of SUHD TVs, among other technologies, will hold higher prospects. |
