There were 47.484 million handsets shipped in the China market in August 2015, increasing 56.5% on year, according to China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The shipments consisted of 5.372 million 2G handsets, decreasing 7.3% on year, 1.397 million 3G handsets and smartphones, slipping 89.2%, and 40.715 million 4G smartphones, hiking 250.6%, CATR said.

Shipments of 328.6 million handsets during January-August grew 12.3% on year and consisted of 37.812 million 2G handsets, up 0.7%, 16.815 million 3G handsets and smartphones, dropping 91.1%, and 274.0 million 4G smartphones, hiking 306.9%.
