Silicon Motion Technology expects to post revenue growth of 22-27% in 2015. Revenues hit a record level of US$289 million in 2014.

"With the strength that we are seeing across our increasingly broad portfolio of embedded storage products, we believe that we are well on track to achieve our strongest year yet," said company president and CEO Wallace Kou in a statement.

"We believe that our revenue will increase sequentially in both the third and fourth quarters of the year as our client SSD controller sales continue to scale with our NAND flash partners and module maker customers, our eMMC sales reach into an expanded set of design-wins, and we add Shannon enterprise-class PCIe SSD sales," Kou continued.

Sales of Silicon Motion's client SSD controllers increased approximately 40% sequentially in the second quarter of 2015, the company disclosed. The product line accounted for 15% of Silicon Motion's total revenues in the second quarter, up from 10% in the first.

Silicon Motion started providing turnkey SATA3 SSD controller solutions for supporting Micron Technology's new 16nm TLC NAND flash in the second quarter, the company revealed.

Meanwhile, sales of Silicon Motion's eMMC controllers stayed flat on quarter. "Despite, lackluster demand for smartphones and tablets in China and elsewhere, our NAND flash partner's business development activities have been very strong," Kou noted. The company has obtained over 60 new eMMC controller design-wins at smartphone and other device OEMs through SK Hynix, "a record number for us," Kou added.

Sales of Silicon Motion's eMMC sontrollers are set to grow through the end of 2015. By the end of the year, sales of the company's embedded storage products including eMMC and client SSD controllers could expand to account for up to two-thirds of its overall revenues, the company said.

Silicon Motion's embedded storage products also include Shannon enterprise SSD solutions. The company completed its acqusition of Shannon Systems, China's leading enterprise-class PCIe SSD company on July 1.

Silicon Motion reported revenues of US$87.2 million for the second quarter of 2015, up 8% on quarter, with gross margin reaching 51%. Net income (non-GAAP) came to US$17.8 million or US$0.51 per diluted ADS compared with net income of US$16.6 million or US$0.48 per diluted ADS in the first quarter.
