Foxconn Electronics reportedly plans to set up production lines for LCD TVs in India in order to cope with demand from Sony, according to industry sources.

Sony shipped 14.5 million LCD TVs in 2014 and is expected to ship a similar amount in 2015 as the vendor will focus on mid-range and high-end models to shore up its profitability, the sources noted.

Although Sony lagged significantly behind Samsung Electronics in total LCD TV shipments in 2014, the Japan-based vendor has managed to continue expanding its market share in India and is likely to outperform Samsung to become the top TV vendor in the market in 2015, said the sources.

Foxconn, once a LCD TV production partner for Sony, is likely to cope with demand from Sony and set up a TV manufacturing unit in India, with the production facilities to come online in the second half of 2015 at the earliest, said the sources.

Foxconn declined to comment on market reports.
