Samsung will build additional DRAM production capacity during 2015, which may create uncertainty for the industry bit supply growth and pricing, according to industry sources.

Samsung's new Line-17 fab will process 60,000 wafers monthly for the manufacture of DRAM memory by the end of 2015, instead of the 40,000 units set by the vendor previously, said the sources.

In response to the speculation, Nanya reiterated its forecast that the global DRAM supply will be slightly short of demand in 2015. The reported additional output from Samsung is unlikely to have a significant impact on the overall industry's supply and demand during the year.

Inotera also believes that 2015 will be a healthy and stable year for DRAM.

Both Nanya and Inotera have reported record sales and profits for 2014, thanks to higher DRAM prices and a favorable product mix.
