Tizen is not yet a great operating system for smartphones, but Samsung needs an OS for its low and mid-range devices instead of Android. To pump out fully functional devices in those price ranges, the Korea Times reports Samsung will return to Windows Phone. A lack of developer support for Tizen means Samsung may not be able to use it anytime soon on low or mid-range smartphones.
Samsung's goal is to move away from Android, but it cannot rely on its in-house solution right now. So, the Korea Times says Windows Phone 8.1 can be expected on upcoming phones. A Tizen phone could still be released this year, according to some reports, but it remains an operating system for TVs above all else.
In the past, Samsung has come out with Windows Phone devices and its prominence in the smartphone market is good for Microsoft since it gets Windows Phone in the hands of far more consumers. |
