Xiaomi has become one of the top five smartphone manufacturers in the world, according to data from Gartner. The chinese company is now in fourth place worldwide with 18.8 million units sold during the third quarter of 2014 alone. During the third quarter of 2013, sales were much smaller at just 3.6 million units, so Xiaomi has seen massive growth in under a year's time.

Samsung leads the global smartphone market with its 73.2 million units sold, and Apple is in second place with 38.1 million units. All three companies behind Apple and Samsung are in China as they are Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo. Apple is the only US-based company on the list.

Gartner analysts say Xiaomi has done well since it is offering devices for less than competitors while keeping up with top specs.
