Memory module maker Adata Technology saw its net profit decline 67.8% sequentially in the third quarter of 2014 due to unfavorable chip prices.

As chip prices did not move higher as expected, profits of Adata's core business shrank, according to the company. Adata's net profit came to NT$134 million (US$4.4 million) in the third quarter, down from NT$418 million in the second quarter. The profit translated into a net EPS of NT$0.58.

Adata's cumulative 2014 net profit totaled NT$920 million or NT$4 a share.

Adata is cautious on the outlook for the fourth quarter. DRAM contract prices may remain flat, but spot price fluctuations are likely to affect negatively its shipment performance during the quarter, the company indicated.
