Windows 7 remains the most popular version of Windows on the market, but Microsoft is trying to push everyone to Windows 8.1. One way that it is making it more difficult to stay away from Windows 8.1 is by no longer providing OEMs with Windows 7. As of today, Microsoft will almost always give the latest version of Windows to OEMs.

In nearly every scenario, manufacturers simply won't get anything other than Windows 8/8.1, though Windows 7 Professional may still appear on some computers.

Those who are truly not happy with any version of Windows 8 will want to install Windows 7, find one of the last Windows 7 computers, or hold out for Windows 10.
