China-based Golden Crown (GC) Energy, which specializes in making electric car batteries, has drawn investment from A-data Technology, according to the battery maker speaking on the sidelines of the opening of its new plant. The major Taiwan-based DRAM module house has taken up a 10% stake in GC Energy.
Taiwan-based China Electric Manufacturing and Supreme Electronics are also among GC Energy's major shareholders, respectively, holding 30% and 20% in the battery maker.
GC Energy recently announced plans to build a production plant at a 200,000-square-meter plot of land in Changshu (Jiangsu Province, China), with a total investment of US$250 million over the next five years.
GC Energy said the Changshu plant will mainly produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicle applications. Construction will be divided into four phases. The plant's annual production capacity is targeted at 150 million Ah (amp-hour) at the end of 2011, 360 million Ah in end-2012, and 580 million Ah as an ultimate goal.
