Prior to the iPhone 6's announcement there were reports that the phone would be pushing the capabilities of Apple's manufacturing partners. Well, it turns out that Foxconn is struggling because of the demand for iPhone 6 units, and it is having trouble increasing production. The Wall Street Journal reports a Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou now has 200,000 workers, and the facility is running 100 production lines 24/7.
Despite all of the manpower, having to come out with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus at the same time has put Foxconn into a difficult position. Even with 200,000 employees already working on the phones at one location, the manufacturer is trying to find more people to hire.
WSJ says too much of the demand has fallen on Foxconn's lap. The supplier is responsible for all iPhone 6 Plus units and most of the iPhone 6 units.
Foxconn has also been producing a large number of bad units. Sources have told WSJ that around 40-50 percent of iPhone 6 units are thrown out once they go to quality control.
The official stats from WSJ's sources show Foxconn is pushing out 140,000 iPhone 6 Plus units and 400,000 iPhone 6 units every single day. |
