MediaTek will begin to produce its next-generation 64-bit, 8-core smartphone solutions using a 20nm process at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the first half of 2015, according to industry sources.
MediaTek's product roadmaps are in line with the progress of the advanced manufacturing processes at TSMC and therefore MediaTek's 20nm chips are likely to come out in 2015, indicated the sources.
In comparison, Qualcomm's next-generation of 8-core Snapdragon 810 and 6-core Snapdragon 808 chips are also to be fabricated at TSMC using a 20nm process. Both chips are expected to enter volume production in the first quarter of 2015, the sources noted. |
