Packaging and testing firm Powertech Technology (PTI) is looking to boost its overall output for SSD-use NAND flash memory to 150,000-200,000 units a month in May-June, up from the current 100,000 units, according to company chairman DK Tsai.
Tsai indicated that PTI has taken over a manufacturing facility in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, which was formerly owned by SSD developer OCZ Technology. The plant will be mainly focused on the packaging of NAND chips for SSDs.
OCZ, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toshiba, has been renamed to OCZ Storage Solutions.
Tsai added that orders placed with the Taoyuan plant are estimated at 60,000 NAND chips a month at present. Monthly output from the facility once reached as low as 20,000-30,000 units.
In addition, Tsai noted that the termination of PTI's licensing agreement with Tessera will have a positive impact on its DRAM operations. PTI will also continue developing its presence in the logic IC field. The firm has already grabbed orders from China-, Taiwan- and US-based application processor developers, Tsai said.
Tsai also pointed out that subsidiary Macrotech Technology will boost its monthly output for 12-inch bumping to 240,00 wafers by the third quarter of 2014 from the current 160,000 units.
PTI's overall production utilization rate is set to exceed 90% starting March, Tsai said. The firm expects to enjoy sequential revenue growth through the last quarter of 2014.
