MediaTek has reported revenues of NT$39.08 billion (US$1.3 billion) for the fourth quarter of 2013, higher than its guidance of NT$37-39 billion. The company had originally forecast its revenues to stay flat or drop within a range of 5% sequentially in the fourth quarter from the NT$39.01 billion recorded in the previous quarter.
Increasing shipments of the company's newly released 8-core smartphone solutions contributed to higher than expected performance in the fourth quarter, according to industry sources.
For December 2013, revenues totaled NT$13.09 billion, up 2.1% sequentially and 72.6% on year. Accumulated 2013 revenues amounted to NT$136.06 billion, increasing 37.1% from a year earlier.
However, due to seasonality and a high base recorded in the fourth quarter of 2013, market watchers expect MediaTek to see its revenues decline 10-20% sequentially in the first quarter of 2014. |
