Hewlett-Packard (HP) has reportedly shifted some of its all-in-one PC orders from Quanta Computer, Pegatron Technology and Wistron to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) for 2014, boosting Foxconn's contribution to 50%, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. However, related ODMs all declined to comment on the rumor.
The sources pointed out that the extra orders are expected to boost Foxconn's all-in-one PC shipments to 1.5-2 million units in 2014, up significantly from 2013.
HP has been aggressively expanding its all-in-one PC business during the past few years and focusing mainly on the US$600 price segment. HP is the third-largest all-in-one PC vendor, behind only Apple and Lenovo and is able to ship 2-2.5 million all-in-one PCs each year. The company is expected to ship 2.4 million units in 2014, the sources said.
After losing HP's orders, Quanta is expected to lean closer to Apple for its all-in-one PC business. However, the Taiwan-based ODM will take a more cautious attitude about the business seeing Apple suffer an on-year shipment drop of about 5% in 2013, the sources noted.
The sources are also concerned that Foxconn's success in landing extra orders will lead to a more fierce price competition in the future and impact the all-in-one PC supply chain.
