MediaTek usually maintains a separate range of chipsets for Smartphones and tablets. In 2014, the company isn't about to change their business strategy. Benchmarked using AnTuTu, the MediaTek MT8392 is an octa-core chip prepared exclusively for Android tablets. The benchmark was run using a prototype tablet having 1 GB of RAM and a 1280 x 800 resolution display running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Scores are exactly in line with the results from the MT6592 octa-core chipset. But that isn't a huge surprise, considering that the only major difference between the two chips is the lack of cellular connectivity in the MT8392.
First tablets based on MediaTek's new chip are expected in mid 1H 2014.
