Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) is expected to perform better than expected in the fourth quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014 as the IC backend service firm has been receiving more windfall orders from IC vendors including MediaTek and Marvell Technology, according to industry sources.
The windfall orders came after a major bumping plant of rival company Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) was ordered to suspend operations for dumping untreated wastewater.
With SPIL's mainstream packaging lines such as bumping and flip chip (FC) packaging currently running over 90% of their capacities, SPIL's revenues for the fourth quarter of 2013 are expected to drop 2-3% sequentially compared to a 5% decline forecast previously, the sources noted.
Furthermore, sales for the first quarter of 2014 are expected to stay flat as compared to the previous quarter, unaffected by traditional seasonality, added the sources. |
