Most notebook ODMs are expected to adjust upward their projected shipments for the fourth quarter of 2013 due to higher-than-expected shipments in November and December. ODMs are also optimistic about business prospects for 2014 as the impact of rising tablet sales on notebooks is expected to start tapering off, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Quanta Computer vice chairman CC Leung recently forecast the company's fourth-quarter performance will grow slightly from that of the third quarter, while market watchers noted that Apple and HP's orders were Quanta's main shipment contributors in the fourth quarter.
Inventec shipped 2.5 million notebooks in November and is expected to ship two million units in December. The company's shipments in January 2014 are expected to maintain at a similar level as in December.

Pegatron Technology expects its revenues from PC-related and non-PC-related businesses to both grow by single-digit percentages in the fourth quarter, with non-PC-related businesses enjoying a higher growth than PC-related ones.
Wistron is more conservative about its fourth-quarter results and expects revenues in the quarter to suffer a sequential decline. In 2014, Wistron expects its shipments to reach 20 million units, down 13-16% on year.
As for the upstream supply chain, notebook cooling module, hinge and battery module makers' orders for December have remained strong as vendors have been preparing extra inventories to avoid potential supply shortages caused by the Lunar New Year holidays. |
