Foxconn Electronics has confirmed that its Hong Kong-listed subsidiary FIH Mobile has signed a 5-year deal with BlackBerry to undertake OEM production of the vendor's smartphones.
The BlackBerry phones will be made at Foxconn's factories in Indonesia and Mexico, according to Foxconn.
BlackBerry is counting on FIH's ODM strength and Foxconn's EMS capability, as well as Foxconn's factories in Indonesia and Latin America, according to Taiwan-based handset supply chain makers.
The cooperation is expected to affect BlackBerry's existing suppliers, such as ODM firm Wistron and component makers Ichia Technologies and Silitech Technology, the sources said.
