Samsung Electronics has recently released a tablet, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids, targeting the children market, and some market watchers believe the device will create threats against China white-box vendors, which are aggressively trying to gain share in the market.
The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids is already selling in North America.
The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids features Android 4.1.2, a 1024-by-600-resolution display and 8GB of storage. The device's industrial design is modified from the company's 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 tablet to be more suitable for children.
The tablet also features a 3-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front-end camera as well as several gaming and tool apps. Samsung has priced the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids at US$229 with some large retail chains in North America selling it at US$209, slightly higher than the Galaxy Tab 3 at US$199.
Since white-box vendors are mostly adopting poor hardware specifications for their children-use tablets in order to gain advantages in price competition, Samsung's new tablet is offering consumers a new choice.
Market watchers expect Samsung to ship over 10 million tablets in the fourth quarter and over 36 million in 2013. |
