Tablet shipments in Taiwan are expected to reach 1.6 million units in 2013, up 50% from the 1.1 million units in 2012 as Taiwan's telecom and retail channels are both set to offer new promotions to boost sales.
IT retail chain Tsann Kuen sold a total of 120,000 tablets in the first half, up 260% compared to the same period a year ago, and the company is set to challenge a volume of 180,000 units in the second half, with annual volume greatly surpassing the 100,000 units in 2012.
Currently, among Tsann Kuen's tablet sales, 50-60% are Apple iPad series devices and around 20% are Samsung tablets, leaving Asustek Computer and Acer each having about 10%. However, in the future, the retailer expects the proportion of Android-based models to gradually rise and reach a balance with iPads.
Some channel retailers believe that the tablet industry still has a lot potential such as demand from government procurement and enterprise markets. Once demand from these segments starts appearing, Taiwan's overall tablet shipments will see significant benefits, the sources added. |
