In the same day, Sony announced two very intriguing products. After SmartWatch 2 announcement, the company also unveiled a massive 6.44-inch smartphone named Xperia Z Ultra. Not only it is the biggest Xperia smartphone, it also packs some impressive hardware.
The 6.44-inch phablet is based on the same design as the Xperia Z, meaning it is still water- and dustproof. However, it is a little bit thinner measuring only 6.5 mm compared to 7.9 mm for Xperia Z. The 1080p screen is powered by Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPUs and 2 GB of RAM.
The only downside compared to Xperia Z is the camera, as it is not the same 13-megapixel. An 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor is in charge for all the imaging. This however is not necessarily a bad thing, as it could indicate better low-light shots. It still supports HDR video, but lack a flash. The front facing camera is a 2-megapixel.
Moving on, the phablet comes with only 11 GB user accessible memory, despite having 16 GB of built-in storage. Luckily there is a microSD slot that supports up to 64 GB. A 3,000 mAh battery is in charge for keep the device alive for up to 5.5 hours of a video playback and up to 11 hours of talk time.
In terms of connectivity, the phone supports LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and screen mirroring. Although it comes with Sony's custom UI, it still keeps most of the default Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean features. The Xperia Z Ultra is scheduled to launch globally during the third quarter of 2013, but the pricing and other details have yet to be announced.
