Seeing better-than-expected performances in both April and May, Pegatron Technology expects its notebook and motherboard shipments in the second quarter to meet its forecasts and grow 10% sequentially.
Pegatron announced consolidated revenues of NT$881.9 billion (US$29.61 billion) for 2012, up 47% on year with gross margin at 4.8% and EPS NT$2.71.
Pegatron CEO Jason Chang pointed out that the company's non-IT product lines contributed over 50% of revenues in 2012, and in addition to seeking new business opportunities in the future, the company will also focus on improving its manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency.
Some market watchers pointed out that orders from the first-generation iPad mini and iPhone 4S were the main drivers for the company's strong performance in 2012. The company's subsidiaries such as Casetek and ASRock, also helped Pegatron greatly in 2012.
Although some market watchers are concerned that Pegatron may have insufficient manpower and capacity to handle Apple's new smartphone orders, Chang said that the company currently has about 100,000-110,000 employees worldwide and has plans to increase its manpower to coordinate with clients' schedules. Chang also believes that the company's capacity is sufficient to handle the demand for the new products in the second half.
Pegatron shipped about three million notebooks in the first quarter and 2.5 million units in April and May combined. The company has also recently landed orders for Windows RT-based tablets from regional brand vendors with Microsoft's help. |
