The messiah of low-cost smartphone, tablet, and set-top box manufacturers, MediaTek, rolled out a new high-VFM chip for tablets, the MT8125. This chip should make it possible for companies to build full-HD tablets under $250.
The MT8125 from MediaTek combines a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU clocked up to 1.50 GHz, with PowerVR Series5XT graphics, and a 3G HSPA+ capable soft-modem. The graphics core supports display resolutions as high as 1920 x 1080, accelerates 1080p video playback, and integrates an ISP for cameras with resolutions as high as 13-megapixel. In addition to HSPA+, the soft-modem supports 2G/EDGE, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and FM radio. Its WiFi component is Miracast certified.
Lenovo is in talks with MediaTek to integrate the new chip into one of its upcoming tablets. "MediaTek's team has worked closely with Lenovo to integrate their solutions into our design process, helping us accelerate the development and introduction of new, innovative tablets. In turn, this allows us to fulfill our commitment to delivering the outstanding user experience our customers demand. The tablet market is moving fast, and Lenovo aims to be at the forefront of tablet innovation. MediaTek helps us do that," commented Wayne Chen , vice president and head of mobile business unit for Lenovo. |
