Winbond Electronics reportedly has entered the supply chain for Samsung Electronics' Galaxy 4S with its specialty DRAM and NOR flash chips.

Unlike Samsung's previous Galaxy S3 model, the camera module of the new S4 series employs an additional 512Mb DDR chip to enhance its functionality. The memory is manufactured by Winbond, according to industry sources.

Winbond also supplies 8-16Mb NOR flash memory for the S4 camera modules, the sources indicated. The NOR flash chips are also used in Samsung's third-generation Galaxy devices.

Winbond has declined to comment on the reports.

Winbond is already among the NOR flash suppliers for Apple's iPhone devices, the sources added.
