Intel is set to release several new solid state drive (SSD) products in April or May with competitive prices and performances, and with the price cuts of its previous-generation products, sources from the PC makers believe it will help accelerate the standardization of SSDs.
Intel will unveil DC P2950 series SSD products in mid-May targeting datacenter applications and will release the Pro 1500 series for enterprise applications. The P2950 will feature 25nm SLC chips, while the Pro 1500 will adopt a 20nm MLC process.
In addition to its existing S3700, 525 and 335 series, Intel released its DC S3500 and 530 series in the first quarter.
The Pro 1500 series will have four models initially – 350GB, 240GB, 180GB and 80GB – and Intel will add a 480GB model in the third quarter. The series will be replaced by the next-generation Pro 2500 series in the fourth quarter.
Intel will also launch a 480GB model for its 530 series in the third quarter.
