Some memory controller IC design houses have adopted DRAM modules as solutions to replace SSDs used in cloud computing systems, financial applications, medical services, and online transactions, according to Taiwan-based memory module makers.
This is mainly because SSDs' rewriting capabilities in such applications are comparatively weak when it comes to handling fragmentary data and a sudden surge of information due to their physical properties, the sources said. In addition, drops in DRAM prices are boosting the adoption of DRAM modules.
Taiwan-based IC design house Allone Solution has combined its controller ICs with HyperX series DRAM modules produced by Kingston Technology to offer Cloud Disk Drive solution aimed at replacing SSDs, the sources indicated. |
