Intel's Patrick Darling reports that the company has added a new capacity to its Intel SSD 335 Series of performance-segment consumer SSDs. Previously Intel only offered a 240 GB model, but now the chip giant has included a new 180 GB model (SKU: SSDSC2CT180A4K5) for those who want the performance but not necessarily all that space.
According to the specs, the SSDs have sustained sequential reads of up to 500 MB/s and writes up to 450 MB/s. They also have up to 42,000 IOPS 4K random read throughput, and up to 52,000 IOPS 4K random write throughput. Both connect via a SATA 3 (6 Gb/s) interface and use Intel's 20-nm MLC NAND Flash.
"With the latest SATA Technology and newest Intel NAND Flash, the Intel SSD 335 Series offers the perfect combination of performance, quality, and price – making it the best value upgrade for your personal computer," the company said.
The 2.5-inch SSD comes with a 3.5-inch drive adapter, and a life expectancy of 1.2 million hours MTBF. Intel also provides tools like the Data Migration Software suite for moving the entire system from a previous drive to the new SSD, and the Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer to maintain the drive's health and keep it out-of-the-box fresh.
Darling added that the Intel SSD 335 Series will be sporting a new case design by the end of the quarter, so stay tuned.
