US-based high-end PC peripheral vendor Razer and Taiwan-based motherboard OEM/ODM Walton Chaintech, in view of large potential demand, will launch tablets for sale under own brands in 2013, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Razer will launch Wintel series tablets, Razer Edge, with professional PC users being target customers and North America and some areas in Asia Pacific being target markets, the sources noted. Razer will launch Razer Edge standard version and Razer Edge Pro in the first quarter of 2013, with the former to be equipped with Intel Core i5 processor, Nvidia GT640M LE GPU, 4GB DDR3 ROM and 64GB SSD (solid-state drive) and the latter with Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia GT640M LE GPU, 8GB DDR3 ROM, 128GB or 256GB SSD, the sources indicated.
Walton Chaintech will have its subsidiary maker in Shenzhen, southern China, cooperate with Colorful, a China-based vendor of motherboards and graphics cards including Chaintech's products, to develop eight 7-, 8-, 9.7- 10.1- and 13.3-inch quad-core tablet models with Retina touch screens for sale under the brand Colorfly, the sources pointed out. China will become the world's second largest tablet market with estimated demand for 60 million units in 2013, and Colorfly stands a chance of gaining a market status in China through integration of Walton Chaintech's R&D capabilities and Colorful's retail channel resources, the sources indicated.
