Taiwan-based optical disc drive (ODD) maker Lite-On IT has reported consolidated revenues of NT$3.38 billion (US$116 million) for December, slipping 6.6% on month and 16.5% on year. Consolidated revenues for fourth-quarter 2012 dipped 17.3% sequentially to NT$10.95 billion, with the entire 2012 seeing a 17.6% decline to reach NT$50.51 billion.
However, SSD (solid-state drive) sales alone in December grew sequentially by over 20% and SSD shipments in the fourth quarter hiked nearly 40% on quarter, Lite-On said. The company said it will invest NT$2-3 billion to expand its SSD production lines from four currently to 14 by the end of third-quarter 2013.
Lite-On IT said it has been adjusting its product mix and aims to decrease the revenues proportion for PC-use ODDs from 70% in 2012 to 30% in 2015, with SSDs and automotive electronics to be the main source of revenue growth.
