Phison Electronics' solid-state drive (SSD) products reportedly have attracted orders from Acer and Asustek Computer, with shipments kicking off recently.
Specializing in memory controller chips, Phison also produces NAND flash devices including SSDs. Phison has developed pure SSDs and hybrid drives, and is shipping 600,000-700,000 units every quarter - representing exponential growth compared to the quarterly level reached during the first half of 2012, according to industry sources.
Phison's SSD shipments are expected to register another exponential increase in 2013, thanks to the firm's entry into the supply chain of brand-name notebook vendors, the sources believe. Acer and Asustek have both placed orders of SSDs used in ultrabooks with Phison, with shipments set to boom in 2013, the sources noted.
Phison is also gearing up for smartphone-use eMMC solutions. The firm has gradually scaled up its shipments of eMMC devices to 20-25 million units a quarter, with customers including dedicated memory module houses and NAND flash vendors, according to the sources.
Phison's revenues for November are forecast to stay high at between NT$2.8 billion (US$96.3 million) and NT$2.9 billion, the sources said. With new products bringing in additional sales as well as stable prices for NAND flash memory, Phison is expected to have a particularly strong fourth quarter of 2012, the sources indicated.
