IC packagers Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) both saw their second-quarter net profits rise over 50% sequentially along with higher gross margins, thanks to grow in sales and utilization rates.
SPIL reported consolidated revenues of NT$16.55 billion for the second quarter of 2012, up 9.4% on quarter. But on an annual basis, SPIL's second-quarter sales saw a 12.3% increase compared to the same period of 2011 while ASE's IC ATM business saw only 1% growth.
Communication products also accounted for about half of SPIL's total revenues in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, SPIL generated a 19.3% gross margin in the second quarter, compared with 14.7% in the prior quarter.
SPIL reported net profits of NT$1.47 billion for the second quarter, with EPS arriving at NT$0.48. Profits saw growth compared with NT$891 million in the first quarter and NT$1.13 billion a year ago.
