MediaTek reportedly has landed short lead-time orders for its MT6575 and MT6573 solutions from branded handset makers in China, and shipments of the two chips will gain momentum in the second quarter of 2012, according to industry sources.
Shipments of the 3G MT6575 solution in the first quarter are expected to be higher than the company's internal projection of 8-10 million units, the sources estimated.
Orders for the 2.5G/2.75G MT6573 solution have also rebounded recently, since China-based handset makers have stepped up efforts to promote sales of feature phones to other emerging markets, the sources added.
Buoyed also by increasing shipments of chips for consumer electronics devices, networking equipment, optical storage products and TVs, MediaTek's revenues are likely to jump by over 30% sequentially in the second quarter, said the sources.
