Wistron has commented on a recent patent complaint over notebook technologies lodged by Toshiba, saying that shipment volumes of affected notebook models are very small and so the issue will not affect Wistron much.
Toshiba has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) saying Wistron has violated two of its patents with Acer's Aspire Timeline 4810T notebook and has asked the ITC to ban the model from shipping to the US, according to a widely circulated report from Bloomberg.
Wistron said it has already referred the case to its lawyers in the US.
Wistron's major clients are Dell, Acer and Lenovo, while Hewlett-Packard (HP) also outsources small volumes of notebooks to the company; however, Wistron has never cooperated with Toshiba on notebook manufacturing, although it was reported to have landed orders from the vendor for 2010, according to previous reports. Market watchers pointed out that Wistron has since lost the Toshiba orders.
