Optical disc drive (ODD) maker Lite-On IT expects its 2011 revenues to reach NT$60 billion (US$2.07 billion), exceeding NT$58.7 billion posted in 2010 to become a new annual record, according to industry sources.
In addition to ODDs for desktops and notebooks, Lite-On IT has seen increasing proportions of revenues from automotive ODDs, and drives used in Xbox 360 and other games consoles, and SSDs, the sources indicated. Currently, PC-use ODDs account for 80% of Lite-On IT's revenues, followed by ODDs used in games consoles at 10%, and automotive ODDs and SSDs each at 5%, the sources said. In view of booming sales of tablet PCs, smartphones and ultrabooks, Lite-On IT expects significant growth in demand for SSDs, the sources noted.
Lite-On IT hit record revenues of NT$17.6 billion for the third quarter of 2011 and expects fourth-quarter revenues to drop 10-12% sequentially.
