NAND flash spot market pricing might be stimulated by the recent floods in Thailand over the short term, according to inSpectrum.
Capacity from major hard drive disk (HDD) players in Thailand is expected to be affected due to the recent floods. This could drive demand for solid state drives (SSD) and USB flash drives, which means the price for mainstream NAND flash at the spot market is expected to increase, inSpectrum explained.
The NAND flash spot market was quiet this week (Oct 24-28) with the overall price remaining flat. As of the noon session of October 28, the spot price for 32Gb MLC held at US$3.48 while the price for 64Gb MLC stayed at US$5.84, according to the research firm.
The overall price trend continued to deteriorate at the mainstream DRAM spot market this week (Oct 24-28) since traders are dumping inventory for cash as the end of the month approaches, said inSpectrum.
As of the noon session of October 28, the spot price of branded 2Gb DDR3 dropped 7% to US$0.90 and white-branded 2Gb DDR3 decreased by 6% to US$0.73, noted the research firm.
