SK hynix announced the development of the PEB110 E1.S (PEB110), a cutting-edge solid-state drive (SSD) tailored for data centers. This new drive leverages the fifth-generation (Gen5) PCIe specifications, doubling the data transfer rates to 32 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) and enhancing power efficiency by more than 30% compared to its predecessors.
In response to the growing customer demand for high-performance NAND solutions, such as SSDs for data centers, SK hynix has expanded its SSD portfolio with the introduction of the PEB110. The company is currently undergoing qualification with global data center customers and aims to begin mass production in the second quarter of the next year, subject to successful qualification.
A notable feature of the PEB110 is the implementation of the Security Protocols and Data Model (SPDM) technology for the first time in SK hynix's data-center SSDs. SPDM is a critical security solution designed to protect server systems, offering secure authentication and monitoring capabilities. With the escalating frequency of cyberattacks on data centers, the inclusion of SPDM in PEB110 is expected to satisfy the stringent information security requirements of customers.
The PEB110 will be available in three capacity options—2 terabytes (TB), 4 TB, and 8 TB—and will support the Open Compute Project (OCP) version 2.5 specifications to ensure greater compatibility across various global data centers.
Ahn Hyun, Head of the N-S Committee at SK hynix, stated, "The new product builds on the company’s best-in-class 238-high 4D NAND, boasting the most competitive standards in the industry in terms of cost, performance, and quality." Looking ahead, the company is on track to solidify its position as the No. 1 global AI memory provider in the SSD market for data centers, following the successful customer qualification and volume production of the PEB110.
