Seven of the global top 10 best-selling smartphones in 2021 were Apple’s iPhones, Counterpoint Research said on March 10. Samsung Electronics had only one model in the list. The remaining two were Xiaomi models.

In particular, Apple iPhone models swept all the top five in the sales rankings. The top ranker was the iPhone 12 followed by the iPhone 12 Promax, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 11.

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy A12 came in sixth. The Galaxy A series belongs to Samsung's mid- to low-priced product lineups. Samsung’s premium lineups, the S and Z series, failed to make the top 10.

Demand for the Galaxy A12 continued in almost all regions and countries, especially in North America, Latin America, and Western Europe throughout the year, according to Counterpoint. The Galaxy A12 is considered a cost-effective model among consumers for its ample battery, six memories, and extended software support.

Counterpoint said the Galaxy A13, a follow-up model of the Galaxy A12 released in December 2021, is expected to enjoy its ongoing strong momentum.

Samsung's premium models, including the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 Ultra, placed between 10th and 20th.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s Redmi 9A and Redmi 9, which ranked seventh and tenth, respectively, fared well in all regions, especially in China, India, and the Asia-Pacific region.
