Memory module maker Transcend Information has posted net profits of NT$529 million (US$18 million), or NT$1.24 a share, for the second quarter of 2011. Net profits for the first half of the year amounted to NT$1.42 billion, which translated into an EPS of NT$3.33.
The six-month EPS is about 55% higher than the NT$2.15 posted in the same period of 2010, Transcend's financial data show.
Despite falling prices for both DRAM and NAND flash memory, Transcend effectively controlled its chip inventory resulting in stable gross margin performance for the second quarter of 2011, the company indicated. Transcend's gross margin slid only 0.83pp sequentially to 12.44% in the second quarter.
Fellow memory module companies Adata Technology, Apacer Technology and Power Quotient International (PQI) have not published their financial results for the first half of 2011. According to their respective data for the first three months of the year, EPS all declined to less than NT$1 compared to higher levels a year ago.
Adata posted a net EPS of NT$0.42 in the first quarter of 2011 compared to as high as NT$2.04 a year earlier, while Apacer saw its EPS decrease to NT$0.56 in the quarter from NT$1.30 in the same quarter last year. PQI registered a net EPS of NT$0.02 in the first quarter, down from NT$0.83 in first-quarter 2010.
