The 2018 iPhones were the first to use TSMC’s 7nm process.

The company plans to ‘soon’ break ground on its 3nm fab which is scheduled to start production in 2022.

According to JK Wang, the company’s senior vice president for fab operations, TSMC is on track to start 5nm commercial production in the second half of 2020, while it’s also expected to start 3nm volume production in 2022.

In October, TSMC upped its capex projection for 2019 to $14-15 billion.
