Huawei has shipped over 200 million smartphones, including Honor-brand models, so far in 2018, surpassing a total of 153 million units shipped a year earlier, according to a company announcement.

The company attributed the significant shipment growth to the release of its AI-centric P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro flagship models as well as its mid-tier Honor 10.

Particularly, shipments of the P20 and Mate 20 family products have reached 16 million units and five million units, respectively thus far in the year.

The company's Nova- and other mid-tier models accounted for the bulk of its total shipments, the company added.

The number of active users of Huawei handsets currently totals 500 million in 170 countries, the company said.
