Global shipments of iPhone XR during the its new product lifecycle (from fourth-quarter 2018 to third-quarter 2019) are likely to reach 70 million, down from a previous forecast of 100 million units, according to Ming-chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, as cited by the Economic Daily News.

According to the report, Kuo lowered his estimate on reasons including negative impacts on consumer confidence from the trade war especially in the China market, higher price of iPhone XR and increasing competition from Huawei's Mate 20 series phones.

However, Kuo still maintained his previous forecast that Apple will ship 75-80 million iPhone devices during the fourth quarter of 2018 as increased shipments of the iPhone XS series and other legacy models can offset the reduction in iPhone XR projected shipments.

Separately, iPhone XR shipments are expected to reach 30-35 million units in the fourth quarter of 2018, 20-25 million units in the first quarter of 2019 and 10-15 million units in the second quarter, Kuo was cited as estimating.

For the first quarter of 2019, shipments of total iPhone units will reach 47-52 million units compared to 52 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2018, said the report.
