Quanta Computer's September sales dropped while most other major notebook ODMs saw their revenues for the month increase.

Quanta's consolidated revenues went down 6.18% on month and 5.85% on year to arrive at NT$93.19 billion (US$2.97 billion) in September, while combined consolidated revenues for the first nine months of 2018 also slid 3.81% on year to come to NT$711.31 billion.

Despite the weak revenues, Quanta still shipped 3.5 million notebooks in September, the highest monthly level in the third quarter. Most of the company's shipments for the month were for models with lower ASPs.

Some market sources pointed out that Quanta is still expected to benefit from its shipments for the new Apple Watch. Quanta has already delivered the wearables and Apple is expected to begin aggressively taking delivery of the Apple Watch shipments during the year-end holidays, the sources said.

The sources also expect Quanta's fourth-quarter revenues to be driven by Apple's new MacBooks, which reportedly will be announced in the same quarter.

Quanta declined to comment on its clients or orders and expects its notebook shipments in the fourth quarter to drop slightly on quarter. Its fourth-quarter revenues are expected to rise thanks to increasing product ASPs and orders for consumer electronics because of seasonal factors.

Compal Electronics reported consolidated revenues of NT$89.99 billion for September, growing 8.5% on month and 9% on year - the highest monthly level so far in 2018. For the first nine months of 2018 combined, Compal recorded a total of NT$687.38 billion in revenues, rising 8.63% on year.

Compal shipped 3.9 million PCs in September, up from 3.3 million units in August with shipments in the third quarter arriving at 10.5 million units, rising 2% from a quarter ago and meeting the company's expectation.

For the second half, Compal has begun fulfilling orders for several consumer electronics devices, including tablets, wearables and e-book readers with their volumes to expand in November and December for the year-end holidays. Compal reportedly will also begin delivering new Apple Watch in November, which is expected to boost the company's revenues in the fourth quarter.

Wistron has announced consolidated revenues of NT$87.64 billion for September, up 18.79% on month and 9.68% on year with combined consolidated revenues for the first nine months of 2018 arriving at NT$634.18 billion, up 10.44% on year.
