Qualcomm and MediaTek both have geared up their efforts to promote their 5G solutions in a bid to better their presence in the forthcoming 5G market as telecom operators have begun holding bids for the purchase of 5G systems, more 5G-compatible end devices are getting field-testing, and 5G smartphones are to officially debut in 2019, according to industry sources.

Qualcomm has already secured a leading position technologically by releasing its 5G solutions more than a year. Moreover, the company has also begun offering turnkey platform service to clients which entail 5G modules, system designs and yield rate validation tests in addition to platform solutions for related 5G product developments.

In other words, Qualcomm is offering multiple, comprehensive services to satisfy customers' need for the adoption of advanced 5G technologies to design and develop next-generation products and applications, said the sources.

By doing so, Qualcomm is not only assisting its clients to directly chime in on the global 5G market, which is a great advantage for those customers who are unable to invest heavily in 5G technology in the short term, but also help it widen market share against competitors, commented the sources.

MediaTek, having released its first-generation 5G modem chip, the Helio M70, in mid-2018, reportedly plans to launch its next-generation 5G modem chipset solutions in the second quarter of 2019, as it aims to enhance its presence in the 5G solution market, indicated the sources.

However, the sources believe that Apple and the China market will play a vital role in the emerging 5G market, and the adoption of chipset solutions by either side will underpin the scenarios of the segment.
