NAND flash device controller IC supplier Phison Electronics has reported net profits of NT$1.24 billion (US$40 million) for the second quarter of 2018, up 40% sequentially, with EPS coming to NT$6.27.

Phison posted revenues of NT$10.33 billion in the second quarter, up 11.1% sequentially, while its gross margin climbed 3.04pp on quarter to reach 22.54%.

A pick-up in NAND flash device demand, and substantial growth in shipments for eMMC and SSD devices, as well as a favorable product mix, led to Phison's positive performance during the second quarter.

Phison's net profits amounted to NT$2.12 billion in the first half of 2018, with EPS reaching NT$10.75.

Looking forward, Phison expects a seasonal pick-up in demand for smartphones, notebooks and PCs to boost further its eMMC and SSD device controller shipments in the third quarter. The supplier of memory device controller ICs also expressed optimism about its profit performance in the second half of 2018.
