Smartphone shipments in China totaled 94.2 million units in the second quarter of 2018, up nearly 10% on quarter and 2.2% on year driven by the rollouts of new models by makers and robust sales during the 618 Shopping Festival sponsored by JD.com in June, according to Digitimes Research.

Digitimes Research has observed that China-based brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo all posted a higher than 10% sequential growth in shipments in the second quarter, but sales of iPhone X, iPhone 8 lineup and other older-generation iPhone products were slowing down as compared to the previous quarter as more consumers are waiting for the release of next-generation iPhones.

Looking into the second half of 2018, Apple is likely to be the only of the top-five brands in China that would register a single-digit annual growth in shipment thanks to the rollouts of new models, while Xiaomi is expected to perform steadily and Huawei, Oppo and Vivo may see their shipments dip by a single- or even double-digit rates on year in the second half of the year, Digitimes Research estimates.
